Saint-Etienne captain Blaise Matuidi has immediately been linked with Liverpool following the appointment of Damien Comolli.
Liverpool's new director of football strategy is a big fan of the 23-year-old and having worked with him, there is every chance that he could put forward his name to the Anfield board.
Speaking a few weeks ago, Comolli said: "He is our captain and a major player for us. He's done well for us last season but we convinced him to stay.
"But I'm not being naive, I know it will be difficult to keep him and know he will end up in England or one of the top clubs in Europe.
"Whoever comes for him, it will cost them a lot of money."
Juventus were recently linked with the player but he would prefer a move to England if he was to be made available.
At the time of the Juve link, Matuidi said: "It is nice to know a club like Juventus is following you or asking about you but the league that would suit me best is the Premier League. This is due to tactical, cultural and physical reasons, and the atmosphere in the stadiums."
